Intrinsic Imaging: Radiology Experts Launch Medical Imaging CRO for Clinical Trials

A group of clinical trial professionals consisting of medical imaging experts, including radiologists from South Texas Radiology Group (STRG) announces that it has launched Intrinsic Imaging LLC – an advanced medical imaging contract research organization dedicated to providing medical imaging services for clinical trials. Located in San Antonio, Texas, Intrinsic is a bio/pharmaceutical services organization, providing image management and radiological review services to global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device organizations.

“For more than 40 years, the physicians at STRG have overseen millions of images at their fifteen state-of-the-art imaging centers and in more than a dozen hospitals. Our team of more than sixty board-certified diagnostic radiologists have sub-specialization in breast, cardiovascular, chest, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, pediatric and interventional radiology and are experts in all therapeutic areas including oncology, neurology, cardiology, rheumatology, and endocrinology,” stated Philip J. Russell, Chairman and CEO of Intrinsic.

Philip Russell, MBA, CMPE, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Mr. Russell has over 30 years of experience in clinical laboratory operations and management in radiology operations management and executive leadership. He has overseen growth and development of South Texas Radiology Group, one of America’s premier private practice radiology organizations. Mr. Russell holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Indiana University. He is a Certified Medical Practice Executive in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Mr. Russell has held several positions, including National President of the Radiology Business Management Association. He has lectured at meetings of the Radiological Society of North America, the Radiology Business Management Association and the American College of Radiology and has authored several management articles for these organizations. Mr. Russell currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Intrinsic and also of South Texas Radiology Group in San Antonio, Texas.

Todd A. Joron, BSc, MBA, President & COO

Mr. Joron holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and in Biology and a Masters degree in Business Administration.

Neal Dalrymple , M.D., Chair, Intrinsic Scientific Advisory Board Dr. Dalrymple completed residency training in diagnostic radiology at Yale University School of Medicine after receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a focused year of body cross-sectional imaging at Yale, authoring one of the 10 most cited articles in the urology literature. An expert in oncological imaging, Dr. Dalrymple has authored numerous journal articles, has been a member of the Genitourinary Scientific Committee for the Radiological Society of North America, performed peer review for the American Journal of Roentgenology and RadioGraphics, and was an examiner for the American Board of Radiology. He has served as Vice Chairman of Radiology and Residency Program Director at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and recently released his first textbook, “Problem Solving in Abdominal Imaging.” Richard Benedikt, M.D., MBA, Medical Director, Breast Imaging Dr. Benedikt completed Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he was Chief Resident. He served as Chief of Thoracic Imaging and Chief of Ultrasound at Brooke Army Medical Center. Dr. Benedikt was previously a research fellow at McLean Hospital (Harvard Medical School) for 2 years. Dr. Benedikt has participated in clinical trials for over 15 years and he has authored or coauthored over 25 publications. He has completed human research trials as well as clinical imaging research and he is a manuscript reviewer for 2 major radiology journals, AJR and JACR. Dr. Benedikt also holds an MBA from the University of Texas.

Jack Clement, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director, Musculoskeletal Imaging Dr. Clement is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX where his training was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Clement has co-authored peer reviewed, original research articles in Science, New England Journal of Medicine, and Neuron. After completion of his graduate and medical training, Dr. Clement then completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He then further sub-specialized in musculoskeletal radiology at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a board-certified radiologist with specialized training in orthopedic radiology and interventional pain management.

James Dix, M.D., Medical Director, Neurology and Neurological Imaging Dr. Dix is a graduate of Georgia State University and attended medical school at Emory University. He completed his radiology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle before his 2 year neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He has co-authored, 39 peer reviewed original research articles, 4 book chapters and more than 80 abstract presentations in radiology journals and texts. Following completion of medical school, Dr. Lane completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Stanford College of Medicine, then further sub-specialized in body MR imaging at Stanford University. Dr. Lane spent 4 years at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX where he continued his cardiovascular MRI and CT research. Dr. Mehta completed his residency and fellowship training at Harvard Medical School at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital. He is double boarded and specialty certified in diagnostic radiology and vascular interventional radiology in Canada and the USA. He has widely published in radiology and served as a peer reviewer for Radiographics. He has authored three books in Radiology, published CD-ROMS for radiology education and has run several CME courses on computer applications in medicine and radiology. He is the past recipient of the George Brown and Radiological Society of North America awards for his research activities. He possesses a Certificate of Additional Qualification (CAQ) in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. Todd Tibbetts, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director, Oncology and Thoracic/Abdominal Imaging Dr. Tibbetts completed his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Baylor College of Medicine where his training was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral degree is in cell and molecular biology and resulted in several peer reviewed, original research articles. After graduating medical school, Dr. Tibbetts completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Baylor College of Medicine then further sub-specialized in abdominal radiology at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts General Hospital.
