Leslie Clapp, M.D.

Leslie Clapp, M.D., currently serves as vice president, medical operations, for Avacare Clinical Research Network. Clapp brings a wealth of research experience to her role, previously
serving as vice president, medical services, at IQVIA Biotech for four years, having joined the company (legacy Novella Clinical) in 2009. A board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Clapp’s professional experience spans more than 35 years of combined clinical practice and industry experience, including patient care, academia, clinical research and drug development and trial execution. Her broad therapeutic expertise in the industry includes pediatric, internal medicine, women’s health, hematology, neurology and rare disease indications.

Clapp received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a board-certified pediatrician, she also is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Clapp’s clinical insight derives from a distinguished clinical practice and academic medical career as the founder and managing partner of Main Pediatrics in Buffalo, New York, and as a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. As a former voting member of the US Food and Drug Administration Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee, she provided guidance and recommendations on the safety of changing patient access to medications from prescription to over-the-counter status.

In addition to academic honors, Clapp has received scores of awards recognizing excellence in medicine, including The Buffalo News Citizen of the Year Award and the State University of New York at Buffalo Outstanding Woman in Medicine Award. Recently, Clapp was nominated by IQVIA to be recognized as a Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association’s Rising Star.

Max E. Mercado, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer

Max E. Mercado, M.D., is a physician specializing in internal medicine and chief medical officer of Mercado Medical Practice, LLC, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which he founded in 2003. As one of the first physicians in private practice in the Philadelphia area to incorporate an electronic medical record system in 2005, Mercado remains interested in staying ahead with the latest digital and electronic advancements that are available. A native of Puerto Rico, Mercado earned his medical degree from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He did his internal medicine residency at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Following his residency, Mercado felt the Spanish-speaking population in the Philadelphia area needed a bilingual clinic to go to, so he began his own practice in North Philadelphia and created a welcoming and culturally sensitive medical home for all of his patients. His practice mission statement clearly puts patients’ care first. Mercado has won numerous accolades and awards over the years including the Patients’ Choice Award in 2011 for the Pennsylvania region and was named a Top 10 Doctor in 2012 for the Internist in Fox Chase/Burholme category.
