The Almac Group has completed a 67,000 square foot expansion to their North Carolina facility in Durham, which now houses both the Clinical Services and Diagnostics Divisions.
Almac Clinical Services first began occupancy of the additional building on the campus in February 2008 and has since added a 30,000 square foot warehouse complete with two new loading docks. Staff from Almac Diagnostics’ nearby facility in Durham have relocated to the site.
This expansion has increased storage capacity for clinical supplies with an additional 3,000 pallet locations and is part of global growth across the Almac Group in recent months. This includes the completion of a specialist clinical supplies storage facility in Craigavon, UK and the ongoing development of a 240,000 square foot North American headquarters facility in Pennsylvania on target for completion in 2010.
This new facility will initially house Clinical Services and Clinical Technologies operations with expansion from other divisions in the Almac Group. The new facility in Durham, NC was built to accommodate increased demand in outsourcing of clinical supply management services from Biotech and Pharma organizations and is expected to ensure that synergies between Clinical Services and Diagnostics are fully realized.
This additional facility, along with existing capacity, will increase the Durham campus to almost 138,000 square feet; more than double the size of their original operations.
Donna Christopher, Vice President of Operations at Almac Clinical Services, Durham site said: “This latest investment by Almac will act as a platform for us to serve the increasing demands of our client base who are seeking faster routes to get their products through the clinical development process. We now have 200 employees at our North Carolina operations, which is more than five times the number we had when we first started out in 1998 with a team of 35.”
Behind the Buzz: Why Clinical Research Leaders Flock to SCOPE Summit
February 7th 2025In this episode, we meet with Micah Lieberman, Executive Conference Director for SCOPE Summit (Summit for Clinical Ops Executives) at Cambridge Innovation Institute. We will dive deep into the critical role of collaboration within the clinical research ecosystem. How do we bring together diverse stakeholders—sponsors, CROs, clinical trial tech innovators, suppliers, patients, sites, advocacy organizations, investors, and non-profits—to share best practices in trial design, program planning, innovation, and clinical operations? We’ll explore why it’s vital for thought leaders to step beyond their own organizations and learn from others, exchanging ideas that drive advancements in clinical research. Additionally, we’ll discuss the pivotal role of scientific conferences like SCOPE Summit in fostering these essential connections and collaborations, helping shape the future of clinical trials. Join us as we uncover how collective wisdom and cross-industry partnerships are transforming the landscape of clinical research.
